It's easy to be misguided by the youthful innocence of her big, blue eyes, sweet personality, and tender years. Yet DAVEIGH CHASE demands respect as a serious artist. By age 12, she was already a successful award-winning young actress. Now, at 16 years old, Daveigh has amassed an impressive and diverse body of work that many an adult would be honored to have. Not content to portray just any character, she is a versatile young actress who handles both dramatic and comedic roles with ease. But not only does she act, she is also a passionate singer with her own unique sound.
Currently Daveigh is starring in the critically acclaimed HBO series BIG LOVE, based around polygamy, among other things. BIG LOVE is produced by Tom Hanks Playtone Pictures, and boasts an all-star ensemble cast headed up by Bill Paxton. It first premiered in March 2006, and in Season 1, Daveigh portrayed 14 year old Rhonda, who lived in "pre-marital placement" with the 76 year old prophet (Harry Dean Stanton) of the Juniper Creek community. Season 2 is set to begin filming August 2006, with a tentative season premiere date of early 2007.
Daveigh is also the series lead of a new animated television series for PBS entitled BETSY'S KINDERGARTEN ADVENTURES. The series, told from a five-year-old's perspective, is designed to solve problems related to a child's transition from the home to a school environment by making kids interested and excited about the kindergarten experience. It's target audience is aged 2-6 years. Daveigh voices the role of 5 year old Betsy. The voice cast includes Nancy Cartwright, Vicki Lewis, Cree Summers, Tom Bosley, Fred Willard; and several more amazing voice talents!
Daveigh is perhaps best known as the voice of lovable Lilo from the Oscar nominated feature film LILO & STITCH (for which she won an ANNIE Award; as well as a Young Artist Award for her work as Lilo) and the animated tv series THE ADVENTURES OF LILO & STITCH currently airing on ABC/Disney, the previously released dvd STITCH: THE MOVIE!, and the newly released dvd LEROY & STITCH (wrapping up the entire Lilo & Stitch Series); as well as various games.
Daveigh, who has had many amazing opportunities, feels fortunate to have been a part of the wonderfully animated fantasy SPIRITED AWAY, which won the Oscar at the 2003 Academy Awards-- for Best Animated Feature Film. Daveigh lends her personality and voice to "Chihiro"; a ten-year-old girl who accidentally stumbles into a strange world and becomes the heroine of SPIRITED AWAY, an English-language version from Disney, of the internationally acclaimed Japanese anime film from master Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli.
In addition to her voice-over work, Daveigh has appeared on-camera in several lead roles. Daveigh Chase is the young girl who scared audiences worldwide in her creepy portrayal of Samara, from DreamWorks blockbuster thriller THE RING. Daveigh gave a riveting performance and won the 2003 Mtv MOVIE AWARD at age 12, an award voted on by fans; which made it that much more special. Daveigh beat out Mike Myers, Colin Farrell, Willem Dafoe and Daniel Day-Lewis to take home the award for Best Villain for her performance as Samara in The Ring. She can currently be seen again as Samara in THE RING 2. Other film credits include her role as Samantha Darko in instant cult hit DONNIE DARKO, along with starring roles in BEETHOVEN'S 5th, THE RATS, THE ONLY WITNESS, and R.L. In a somewhat ironic twist, at age 7- Daveigh starred as a Mormon child in a musical theatre production of "UTAH!" scripted by prize-winning playwright Tim Slover of Brigham Young University, at the Tuacahn Amphitheater in St. George, Utah-- This production told the story of Brigham Young & the Mormon Church settling into the Utah territory, the struggles and hardships they endured, as well as the joys...UTAH! was labeled as 'America's Most Spectacular Outdoor Musical,' complete with pyrotechnics, live animals, a massive cast, and a live re-creation of a flash flood, with over 60,000 gallons of water pouring across the stage. The irony is that now once again, Daveigh is portraying a Mormon character in HBO's BIG LOVE.
In her off-time, Daveigh enjoys being able to participate in and give her time to various charitable organizations, such as the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Camp Ronald McDonald Charity, Red Cross, and Children Uniting Nations.
